Pros

The career benefits at Epic are amazing, especially for folks just starting out. Epic is willing to invest and teach you about healthcare, project management, and they don't shy away from building life skills. Upward mobility for employees is faster than any other brick and mortar/big company. Easy transition from college (or self employment/small companies). The culture is casual and leadership understands that folks make mistakes early. Everyone is smart (that's not hyperbole. EVERYONE IS SMART). And, in general, people are too busy or too cool for office politics and gossip so a nice working environment overall. Compensation is based on individual achievement. You get out what you put in and the smartest/best employees are awarded with high salaries and better opportunities.

Cons

Some leadership decisions are... interesting. While the organization is generally transparent and the overall business strategy is clear, some smaller things (e.g. reimbursement for phone plans) are made with unrealistic expectations/considerations. As many reviewers have said, work-life balance is challenging for project managers. You have to say "no" and you have to say it at the right time and in exactly the right way. The overachievers hired by Epic aren't used to not being able to do it all and tend to burn out.

Pros

Impact: You are part of creating systemic level change for healthcare organizations. You get to be on site and work directly with providers and see how these changes impact their communities. People: Extremely smart and capable. I feel like I can rely on my team in a way I haven't at previous employers. New hires are entry level, so there's a strong community for people in a similar stage of life. Culture: Quirky but in a real, unique way. People are collaborative and celebrate shared accomplishments. The campus enshrines a very specific (and fun!) vibe. Location: Madison is awesome. Benefits: The health insurance is unparalleled. Sabbatical is a super cool perk too. Growth: A lot of autonomy and responsibility allows people to rise to the challenge. Stability: Solid industry, no lay-offs.

Cons

Remote work flexibility: 5 days a year
