Pros

-The people are great. Your coworkers will be very smart, driven, and hardworking. -There are many opportunities to find a niche, grow and expand it, and become a leader or expert. Healthcare and software are both growing industries - but you don't have to love (or be that interested in) either to find Epic interesting and challenging. -Responsibility is given early and often. You may be just out of college, or at least still new to Epic, but you're still quickly working directly with customers and doing real work within a few weeks. This is a con for some - as there is a lot to take on at first, and it can be overwhelming. I find that the overwhelming situations end up being the ones where I've learned the most. Additionally, after a year or two, I found myself in similar situations - taking on new/bigger roles for which I didn't yet feel prepared - but that's what I asked for. Anyway - there's a lot of work outside of your "comfort zone," which is great if you want to grow quickly, even if you don't always feel like you get to catch your breath. -I feel like there are good support structures if you take advantage of them. That is not always easy to do if you don't know who to go to, but I have not had any personal struggles with that, and it's a pretty open environment. -I really like Madison. You do have to live here, and I see that as a good thing overall, although for some people it does not work out.

Cons

There is a lot of travel, so it's hard to settle into a normal pattern when you're in Madison. Don't expect to take classes or join a league that plays every Tuesday night. You're going to work a lot. The average person in implementation / project management works more than 50 hours per week. Many - including me - work more than 60 hours per week. Then again, I choose a lot of the work I do because I enjoy it- I could cut back and get by just fine by doing less. Managers are young. They are usually talented and mostly the right people, but I often wish they had a little more experience first.
