Pros
The job security is pretty good, pay is at least average if not above average, opportunities for making extra money (i.e. excess straight time for salaried folks) during planned outages, and ability to work a 4/10 schedule (during non-outage periods).
Cons
I left the company after a couple of years because I believe that working in the field of nuclear power as an engineer can result in pigeon-holing the employee such that they are not prepared to go work anywhere outside of the nuclear industry. Majority of time is spent doing repetitive, non-value added work. Lots of focus on training, but not a lot of depth to the training. High stakes job = high stress job. Additionally, no guarantee that the plant will continue to operate until I'm ready to retire (i.e. 20 year license extension; who knows if it will be renewed when that expires).
