Pros

Hotel Engine's product is a power house, and as a PM here, I have had the opportunity to make a real impact on our existing features as well as some of our newer features. There is a lot that can be improved in the booking space, and we are tackling these issues quickly. I have the autonomy and tools needed to level up our product in a meaningful way for our customers, and this is something that is important for my personal career growth. There are clear lines of visibility into leadership, and while the expectations and goals aren't a breeze, that is what ultimately makes my day to day both fun and challenging, which are two things any PM should want. There is a great culture even with many of my team members being remote, and the collaboration with other teams is something that is always top of mind, which is important for any successful product delivery team. There is transparency into overall company performance which I appreciate. Leadership has a high bar and in my time here I have seen the positive impact of this high bar with the talent that has been brought in at all levels of the organization. Benefits are very competitive, and the recent enhancements to the health benefits were great for me personally. Everyday brings new challenges, but with the right team in place, we see them more as opportunities to level up. It is truly an exciting time to be a part of Hotel Engine.

Cons

Personally I don't see this as a con - but for some people, it might be. Things move FAST here, and you need to be able to keep up. You have to be ready to jump in and get things done in what can often times be an ambiguous space - but again, this isn't a con for me - it actually makes my job more fun and interesting :)

Pros

Great leadership and work culture

Cons

Commission could be a little better. Also lots of changes but that’s expected with a company that’s still in the startup phase

Pros

Competitive base salary with commission potential when goals are met. Benefits were solid overall, and the office itself was nice. Weekly catered lunches were also a nice perk, and there were some good coworkers on the team.

Cons

Despite sometimes being positioned as hybrid, the role was fully in-office. The training program (“STP”) felt more fear-based than developmental, with constant pressure and the feeling that your job could be taken away at any point if expectations were not followed exactly. Quotas initially appeared manageable but ramped up very quickly. The structure also made it difficult to recover from a bad month because performance was tied to both monthly bookings and monthly revenue, with revenue goals heavily dependent on deals closed in previous months. Falling behind once often created a snowball effect that was nearly impossible to overcome. Lead quality and distribution were another challenge, as many leads were heavily overcalled. This made prospecting increasingly difficult and reduced the effectiveness of outreach. The office culture often felt immature and overly “bro culture” driven. Expectations changed frequently and were not always clearly communicated. There was also an expectation to work beyond normal hours, especially during training, which contributed to burnout early on. Additionally, there did not seem to be a real focus on employee development or real improvement plans. If performance slipped, employees were often simply let go rather than meaningfully coached through improvement.
