Pros

Exciting mission, many coworkers also passionate Reasonable comp Fun technology

Cons

Lacking exec accountability and self-awarness. For example, in a previous layoff, an exec posted in a public channel just after the following bonus showing an expensive new purchase. Similarly, in the most recent layoff, the c suite took no pay cut and is still taking bonuses. Portioning relative to competitors is poor. They're being out done on price and advertising by competitors as well, so they're somewhat lacking a strategy at the moment to compete. The culture has changed dramatically in the last couple years, increasing bureaucracy. We have hired a number of manager and director staff that approach their positions with cynicism and a lack of respect, and despite repeated complaints little is done to coach them or effect cultural change.

Pros

Embark is an incredible place to work! You get to dive into a variety of projects, and the team is extremely tight-knit, fostering real opportunities for growth. Your voice is heard, and people genuinely value new ideas. Everyone is hardworking, open-minded, and excited to take on challenges—it truly feels like a family (or a dog pack!). The perks of working for a dog-focused company speak for themselves—who doesn’t love dogs? Plus, the benefits are excellent, with great healthcare, work-from-home flexibility, and an office in Boston for those who prefer in-person collaboration.

Cons

The office space is on the smaller side, but with the shift toward remote work, it’s been a smart and natural transition. The previous larger space wasn’t necessary for how the company operates now.

Pros

The team is genuinely passionate about helping pet parents understand and care for their dogs.

Cons

The CEO creates a toxic culture. He frequently gossips about his direct reports behind their backs and even to their more junior team members. This has created constant and significant churn among the executive team which leads to paralysis in the organization. The company is in a negative growth spiral and there is no coherent plan to correct it.
