Pros
Tuition remission is offered to full time employees. However, Elmhurst College is a liberal arts school and promotes left leaning ideologies. The potential value of a free education as a benefit, can be determined by the individual.
Cons
Despite positive annual reviews and increased cost of living, raises are few and far between. The more you do, the more is expected with little gratitude or recognition. Upper management exploits the position that it's a privilege to work for Elmhurst College, even as an at-will, hourly employee. Employee turn over has been high, as a result of terminations and dissolution of previously existing positions. Supervisors are given way too much power. As an employee, the atmosphere is reminiscent of a high school social hierarchy. Sycophancy is rewarded over the hard work that often goes unnoticed. Depending on the supervisors personal policies, disposition and explicit approval, earned benefits such as paid time off can be hard to use or even withheld. Finally, alluding to the review title, the very limited opportunity for job advancement is not based on merit.
