Pros

Worked in the Risk/Compliance Department. Great employees, extremely supportive of one another in such a tough environment. Such talented people on this team! Learned a lot- even though I learned most on my own with very little resources available.

Cons

Where to begin? Came into a position where nothing was documented, given no direction, no training material, no set role. Management was non-existent in a role where management was absolutely needed to ensure success for daily decision making. Employed there for almost a year with no review (even though handbook stated yearly review required every April). The only type of performance conversations had with my manager were in the terms of being told my work I completed was "embarrassing" or that I "worked too slow". Every down-stream decision was kept in "secret" where no feedback, no goals, no expectation, no information ever shared. No department meetings, no department goals, trends were never shared, where the department was improving, where improvements were needed...nothing was ever communicated. Not sure how management expects a team of people to perform to the best of their ability in this type of environment. Trying to get help from other departments on issues that did not pertain to your daily job functions was almost impossible. From numerous ignored emails directly to management in other departments to being ignored directly by your own leadership. If you're not part of the "in-crowd", you learn to function on your own and figure things the hard way by yourself. Everything at EMS is completed by hand, on paper. Entire departments of 30+ employees dependent on a single printer. To have a whole department at the mercy of a single printer, one can assume the verbal arguments and tension felt as every day was a battle to complete your work at this one printer. Numerous requests made to management for help either changing work flows to not be dependent on paper OR getting just another printer, but months continued with no changes. Why is a company that expects to remain relevant and competitive still printing every thing on paper and make decisions by hand written notes? The work environment was also strikingly "old boys" mentality. I witnessed more than a few times the condescending attitudes of the all male sales team directly to the women in the office. Some of the comments made to the older ladies broke my heart due to their sexist and negative nature. These same older ladies worked harder & longer hours than others at times, and it was disheartening to see them go unrecognized. Also disheartening to witness their efforts get shot down by the negative attitudes and comments of the sales team. I titled this review "Dream of the 90's" because the office culture is entirely outdated, from everything being handwritten on paper, no work-life balance, to the sexist attitudes of the sales team, to the attendance policy, to the benefits, to the unethical nature of bottom line numbers, to the outdated technologies expected to be used by employees.
