Pros
Busy seasons minimum 50 hour work weeks which seems much more flexible than Big 4 industry average in my opinion. I think this firm has more a work life balance than those who work at other firms and express their woes on the subreddit r/accounting. Great office culture and exposure to variety of industries including gaming, commercial, government, not for profit, and more. Open communication and a variety of benefits. Mid-size public accounting firm well-known and connected in the Reno area. High demand for accountants seeking quality experience in various client-facing industries. Worked with most mid cap to some high cap clients in the region. Corporate level is actively seeking to advance in technology to keep up with evolving industry standard.
Cons
Public accounting industry work can be rough during busy season. Mistakes and backlog can add up and increase pressure to make deadlines. Busy from Jan - May for 12/31 year end clients. Discouraged to study for CPA during work hours. Hard to focus on getting the CPA outside of work hour expectation. This seems to be a national industry issue. Many have succeeded adjusting to this lifestyle but many fail to meet the demands of the time constraints. Seems to be some sort of right of passage to see if you can manage since others have sacrificed sleep, diet, social life, and physical health to achieve the designation.
