Pros

1. Autonomy: Working at ESS affords me the opportunity to work with families and children in ways that align with my professional training and values. I do not feel micro-managed in any way shape or form which I find refreshing. 2. Clarity of Expectation: As an employee, I appreciate having a clear understanding of the expectations of my job. ESS provides a clear outline of what is important for me to do while also giving me latitude around how to do those things. At the same time, if I have questions or concerns, there is a clear path available to me as to how to get questions answered and guidance toward my understanding. 3. Values: ESS has values clearly laid out regarding what they value in the work we do. These values are reference regularly with checks and balances in place to keep them in the forefront of our work. Contradictions arise at times but those are navigated and grounded in the values-based system that churns the ESS engine of implementation and support. 4. Hours: I really appreciate that my employment follows a school schedule and that I get to have time off throughout the year to regroup and focus on my own professional development and self-care. 5. Employees are invited to complete surveys openly and honestly about their work experience, to bring to light any issues or concerns they may have and/or to present a suggestion they may have. This open communication is encouraged and never punished. The upper management team seems to work to address concerns and ideas proactively helping to contribute to a feeling of being in a safe work environment.

Cons

1. Working in a school is like working in a living petri dish- we are in close proximity to germs, viruses and what-not daily. The PTO days provided aren't always enough to cover the time we may need to recover from the illnesses we are subject to being in a school all day every day. 2. Clear expectations and a path for moving up in this hierarchically focused company are not easily available. A person can feel stuck in their position.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and balanced review of your experience as a Clinical Program Coordinator. We truly appreciate the care and reflection you put into your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you value the autonomy, clarity of expectations, and values-driven culture at ESS. Creating an environment where clinicians feel trusted, supported, and aligned with meaningful work is incredibly important to us. We’re also pleased that our commitment to open communication and regular feedback contributes to a sense of psychological safety. At the same time, we sincerely appreciate you highlighting areas where we can continue to grow. Working in school environments does bring unique challenges, including exposure to illness, and your suggestions around PTO flexibility and creative solutions for additional sick time are thoughtful and constructive. We also recognize how important it is for team members to see clear pathways for professional growth and advancement, and we are continually evaluating how to strengthen transparency and development opportunities across the organization. Thank you again for your honesty, your ideas, and for the work you do each day to support students and families. Your feedback helps us continue to improve.

Pros

I have been with ESS for the last 5 years and it has been a pleasure. I have been able to do lots of meaningful work with children in schools and have been given opportunities to grow by my wonderful supervisors. The intensive therapy that ESS does is not an inherently easy job, but I have felt very supported by my supervisors.

Cons

As with every company there are things that get rolled out without good consultation of the actual working conditions and implementations, especially as a therapist in California working with a company headquartered on the East Coast. That being said, my supervisors have always done what they can to smooth over transitions and support me in finding the best path forward to managing my workload and new expectations.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review, and for your 5 years of dedication to ESS. We’re especially grateful for the impact you’ve made in supporting students through this meaningful and often complex work. We also really appreciate your candid feedback around communication and the rollout of company-wide initiatives. You’re absolutely right that implementation can feel different across regions, especially in states like California with unique requirements and working conditions. Creating stronger feedback loops and ensuring that perspectives from clinicians in the field are heard before and during rollout is an area we’re actively working to improve. It’s encouraging to hear that your regional leadership has been responsive and supportive in navigating these changes, and we’ll continue working to better align communication and collaboration across all levels of the organization. Thank you again for your commitment to ESS and for sharing insights that help us continue to grow.
