Pros
Ecotrust is well-respected in the community, had interesting policies around work-life balance, and employed thoughtful and intelligent staff. It provided me with incredible professional experience.
Cons
The leadership team operated entirely in a vacuum; there was little connection between projects and departments. Big decisions were made with minimal reporting out to the organization. The team appeared to lack a devils advocate, and if it didn’t, they sure didn’t seem to be listening carefully to them. I have no idea what role the board played in decision-making (due to that whole lack of transparency thing), but having seen how other boards operate, they came across as hands-off and disengaged. I was uncomfortable with the lack of oversight I received given the large budget I managed. In my time there, there was no training, no mentorship; anyone promoted into a manger role had to DYI it. Efforts around diversity work were a bit awkward; they had significant organizational buy-in, but leadership was consistently a no-show.
