Pros
- Family atmosphere, coworkers genuinely care about each other. - Work that makes a difference in poor areas of the world. - Many positions include some international travel. - Time built into weekly schedule to share stories of impact with whole group. - Occasional meals provided for end-of-term celebrations and other special events.
Cons
- Most positions require raising full-time support. - Limited benefits available (PTO, retirement plan), but often require raising sufficient support to participate. No employer matching on retirement, no group health insurance. Additional comment that's not really pro or con: Organization has recently (over the past few years) undertaken some significant changes in structure and leadership, and has been expanding into multiple new locations. I would say it’s in that awkward phase between a small organization and a large organization, but with a positive outlook for the future.
