I was with EMAGIN since it’s early days so here’s a review of my experience there. There are way too many cons about this company so here are a few points summarized:
- Immature Leadership - this probably one of the biggest red flags about this place. I’ve been at places where leadership has been good and sometimes mediocre but saying they have poor leadership here would be an understatement. The co-founders are way over their heads with neither of them having any real-world experience of working in professional settings or even running a business. They lack the skills, maturity and decency to be leaders. I’ve even heard one of the cofounders say “If anyone challenges my thinking, I just fire them”. They actually take pleasure in firing people.
- Lying Culture - another a huge con that began to surface as I began to work at the company. Their leadership has no problem lying to investors, customers, stakeholders, mentors and above all, their own team. There were scenarios where they asked employees to do illegal activities like providing misinformation to even the government. They’ve even taken data from an existing client to show it to another potential customer without the existing client’s consent. Anyone who stands up against of these actions or even questions it, or gotten rid of. Their lying is so bad that I wouldn’t even be surprised that the reviews below are done by the founders themselves just to boost the company’s rating on Glassdoor.
- Lack Of Human Decency - the way the founders treat co-ops and anyone who challenges their way of thinking completely lacks respect and basic human decency. I’ve even heard the founders bad mouth their competitors and spread false rumours about their competitors’ products and services. I’ve even heard the founders say borderline racist and misogynistic things out in front of the team. -
Inability to Learn - the startup culture motto is “you don’t know what you don’t know” so you learn from others like your advisors, mentors and other leaders. The founders have this ‘know it all’ mentality that actually is quite detrimental to the growth of company. They don’t think there’s any value in learning from mentors or advisors and believe everything is done right their way.
- Poor Compensation - they pay low and even expect you to cover your own expenses when you do thing on the company’s behalf. Their job postings make it seem like they have a true startup culture but this company is the furthest thing from a true startup. The CEO walks around in a suit for crying out loud!
