Pros
Most employees really do care about helping kids.
Cons
Despite ‘Excellence in Education’ being painted on the walls, and the inclusion of ‘innovation’ as a core value, EDCOE continues to promote traditional practices that hinder improvement and frustrate employees. Any organization that stands by a ’that’s the way we’ve always done it’ mentality is certain to die a slow death. This is evident in the high number of employees leaving the organization, as well as the inability to find qualified (or any) candidates to fill their positions. The COVID closure and work-from-home transition provided an opportunity for EDCOE to practice innovation and excellence by reevaluating the productivity and overall morale that had been expressed by so many at-home employees. Instead, EDCOE insisted that everything should return to ’normal’, seeking no input from the employee and ignoring the opportunity to save on facility costs. This shows that EDCOE values in-person attendance over productivity, employee happiness, and potential savings on facility costs.
