Pros

Great people to work with... just not for. Coworkers shared same sentiments

Cons

Original signed contract from 2014 promised annual reviews with a guaranteed raise. Fast forward almost two years, they "lost" my contract and threatened termination of a modified new contract with added non-compete wasn't signed.

Thanks for your feedback. We are glad to hear you feel good about working with us. As far as working for us, other than in extremely rare situations and only with the most senior people, E2 Optics does not ask employees to sign employment agreements. As a Technician, there would have been no contract or employment agreement to lose. We, therefore, are completely confused as to the “contract” to which you refer. We do ask all employees (and have recently expanded this to include contractors working with us through staffing agencies) to sign standard non-disclosure/non-solicitation agreements. As with the regular review of our various practices and policies, we have recently updated these agreements. Just like we ask employees to sign new Employee Handbook acknowledgments each time the Handbook is revised, we are requesting employees do the same with the latest NDA/NSA. Generally, employees receive a formal performance appraisal at least once annually. As noted in other Glassdoor responses, some teams are already receiving feedback sessions as frequently as quarterly. The Ashburn team, of which you were a part, conducted appraisals in the fourth quarter of 2015 and again in 2016. We can only assume you received feedback during those times. We are not in the practice of guaranteeing raises or promotions. Naturally, those activities occur in alignment with performance, team efforts and dependability, and, in the case of promotions, business need. We are sorry if there was some misunderstanding, and wish you the best.

Pros

There is usually the opportunity to work overtime. Usually between 10-28 additional hours a week. The work pace is pretty steady. They provide water bottles for you during one of the 2 daily 20-40min water breaks. In the lunch tent, they have microwaves (no fridge). There are hand washing stations near the port-a-potties with soap (no real restrooms at any construction site). They give out E2 branded shirts, sweaters, and random company swag every couple of months. You could go from $23 to $28 an hour once you hit a year at this company, depending on how you approach the yearly review and how you showcase your skills.

Cons

My biggest issue is the amount of nepotism that exists, there are family members that are in powerful positions that allow entry level family more leeway and faster promotions. Someone that started 2 months ago could already be given the title of lead(usually takes a year) because they are related to the Project Manager, Superintendent, Field Supervisor, or other leads. The next issue is that the weekly schedule can be hectic. You're at live construction sites. You don't get to pick your hours so if it's a 60-hour work week, you have to stick to it or you could get written up for abandoning your shift. Start time is usually 5 am, Mon-Fri, and the drive to El Mirage/East Mesa can get long if you live in the city. Don't be fooled by the title of data center technician at this company though, a lot of it is construction (structured cabling) for the inside of data centers, you're not really assigning IP addresses, deploying to a network, etc. You're running copper and fiber cables and then connecting those cables. Benefits suck, they offer health insurance through Cigna, and American Trust Retirement for your 401(K) plan.
