Pros

Pay was alright and there were a few paid days off during Covid

Cons

I left a bad manager and unhealthy company culture. Leaders at DocuSign focus most of their energy on blaming / shaming other teams for failed projects instead of developing strategies for collaboration and accountability to deliver value and reduce complexity. Managers here lack empathy and do not have the skills and capabilities to motivate every employee individually, nor to coach and develop their people by focusing on their strengths. Leaders here make decisions based on politics, not productivity. You will be excluded (or experience various forms of passive aggressive behavior) if you do not have a personality type like your manager or leadership team. Effectiveness in your role is not valued as much as likeability and fitting in. My manager had no interest in adding value to their team through empathy, mentorship and coaching. Their way of adding value was to force their team to have happy hours over Zoom, which the team participated in begrudgingly. My manager also actively prevented me from taking roles on other teams at DocuSign and never once discussed career growth opportunities or even asked me what I wanted to do in the future. Ironically the role I accepted at a different company is the same as the role my manager at DocuSign actively blocked me from pursuing. Leaders/managers here focus on protecting their own position and do not invest in retaining their most effective people. This is obvious through the consistently bad Pulse survey scores, and nearly every competent person on the team being a flight risk. Most top performing team members would leave if it weren't for the golden handcuffs. I would rather leave future money on the table so that this place is in the rear view mirror.

Pros

Mostly nice people, dedicated to their specific roles.

Cons

Lack of team cohesion among departments. Lots of communication and accountability breakdowns, siloed efforts. Immature processes and undeveloped operations. Unqualified and ineffective leadership: I was to be the Business Process Lead but mid-interview, the hiring manager told me they would instead place me in a very small sub-department reporting into Finance Business Transformation. It was never clear if this was meant to be temporary or permanent... I was successful in facilitating and contributing to a project that was 10+ years overdue at Docusign. The managing director I reported to was laid off so a more tenured employee took over as "manager" who had never been in charge of people and it showed. Despite my contributions, I was told how little they valued my work and efforts on a successful project. Definitely a level disparity as I have been Sr. Finance Manager twice and head of a global department reporting into VP level and up. It appeared that all this new "manager" wanted was a subservient cog to condescend, demotivate, and talk down to. Beyond ridiculous to squander my 15 years of corporate experience.
