Pros

Having worked for the state government for 14 years as a law enforcement officer, I was burned out by the time I became an attorney. Burned out with having a boss, wearing certain clothes, and being another cog in the wheel. 9 to 5 jobs are overrated. My first full-time lawyer job after passing the bar was being a public defender in my home county. I had the drug felonies with the same 200 clients, and it made me feel like a hamster on a wheel. As soon as the clients would get probation, some of them would pick up new drug charges and be back in jail. Not to mention I was practicing with the same five judges and same five district attorneys—I wanted some variety. Then, I went exploring the domestic relations world and worked at a family law firm for a year and a half. The contested divorces and child custody issues were extremely messy. Some select clients needed texts and phone calls daily. As I was planning my exit strategy for quitting the boutique family law firm, I discovered the wonderful world of Docketly remote work! It allows me to stay at home with my kids and only sign up for hearings I have time for, with my busy “mom” schedule. Additionally, I play ice hockey. The freedom of working for Docketly means that I can go to the ice rink or gym whenever my heart desires to work on being an athlete. I choose hearings that don’t conflict with my intense athletic training schedule. For example, if our team has a late hockey game and we get off the ice after 10PM, I won’t choose a Docketly hearing the next morning. Everyone needs to rest! Docketly empowers me to be my own boss. Aspiring athlete, stay-at-home mom, and attorney of almost 5 years. It’s freedom to choose where in the state I want to practice and when.

Cons

Not being able to meet with coworkers face-to-face in Colorado
