Pros

The campus is so beautiful! Some of the students are amazing and truly want to learn how to be the best teachers

Cons

This was a challenging job because there was a lot of crazy diversity and equity training we had to take part in. Not sure if it was university wide or just in the education department. Like we learned that black on black crime “rarely happens” despite the data and that we were told we needed to give our black student extra privileges and better grades. That just felt wrong as we needed to prepare educators and give students who didn’t come to class or do work the same consequences. I found it all very political and the PD lasted two years. I am a minority myself and felt uncomfortable. There was one professor who was outspoken and extremely rude, got upset if we didn’t acknowledge black history month or pride month enough in our classes. I left but have heard this continues. There is a parent group addressing it.

Pros

I taught at Doane University for seventeen years. It's a very good school with great professors and many programs from which to choose. Nebraska is an awesome state, and Lincoln is my favorite city in America (I've lived all over the United States, too). If you're looking for a personalized education where you'll get lots of attention from your professors - and if you'd like a peaceful setting in which to pursue your studies - then I'd highly consider Doane University as you contemplate where you'd like to pursue your higher education. Grade: A

Cons

Students from out-of-state may sense a lack of culture in Nebraska. But this isn't true. There is culture everywhere, especially in Lincoln and Omaha. You may have to drive a little bit to reach these cultural hubs, especially if you live on the main campus in Crete, but Nebraska is a beautiful state, so the drive is definitely worth it. Lots to see and do in Nebraska. It gets cold, so wear a jacket :-)
