Pros

- Most of the staff was great and friendly. - Insurance benefits were better than most entry-level call center jobs. - Company headcount was relatively small. - The work itself was purposeful and ensured the protection of utilities, property, and human lives. - Winter months were nice and slow. - Training is comprehensive and helpful, and supervisors / trainers supported employees every step of the way. - HR was friendly and quick to resolve issues. - Despite the cons listed below, it was an overall decent job with friendly colleagues, and I enjoyed most of the time I spent working there.

Cons

- In the busy season the company was *always* severely understaffed, and the phone rang constantly, which was stressful and resulted in schedule inflexibility. - The software used to process requests was clunky and poorly designed visually, which also confused customers when filing requests online, resulting in even more time wasted on the phone. - The number of employees outnumbered the number of on-site parking spaces. If you were unlucky enough to arrive for your shift after all the parking spaces had been taken, you'd have to park on the other side of a highway and risk being late for your shift. - The pay was not enough to support a single independent person, let alone a family. Small mistakes while working at Diggers Hotline can result in property damage and death. Getting paid less than or equal to the nearby fast food restaurants and gas stations is laughable and disrespectful to the employees. - Antiquated state laws require unnecessary information to be gathered from callers. This wasted a lot of time and frustrated callers by overcomplicating the process. Other state's 811 centers don't share this problem. This wasn't directly Diggers Hotline's fault, but was a remarkable annoyance of the job that prospective employees should be aware of. - One of the most frustrating parts of the job was that a large portion of the calls were from people with complaints related to other companies - specifically the utility locators. These calls were a massive waste of time and contributed significantly to the stressful nature of the job. It was an ongoing issue that persisted for years. Unfortunately, the board of directors consists of men in suits and ties from the aforementioned companies that write policies preventing Diggers Hotline employees from being transparent about who is responsible for certain parts of the process.

Thank you for sharing your views of your time with us at Diggers Hotline. Our system was upgraded in late 2019 and the processes are much easier and streamlined now, which removes some of the stress. While there were times it appeared we were understaffed, we unfortunately cannot staff for the 6-8 weeks that the phones are incredibly busy, as then we would have to layoff employees and only provide them a short employment, which is what we strive to avoid. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts about your time here.

Pros

Fellow co workers become like family, very close knit. Benefits are decent.

Cons

LOW WAGES, LOW WAGES, LOW WAGES. The company has heard this for many years and still thinks they are paying very well and honestly they are not, especially in todays economy and even before the inflation started. Most companies are starting wages at $15/hour and so you need to do better to attract good employees, in this day and age, the employee is no longer the candidate the employer is and if they can not provide a decent wage and benefits then employees will not come or current staff will leave to other places that are paying the same wage. The company doesn't understand we are here to keep wisconsin digging safely, that means saving lives and under ground infrastructure, they think $15 an hour is great. Since DHL is a nonprofit there revenue is public record, and other than last years fiscal year numbers all previous years show a net revenue of 6 figures, They can treat their core staff better.

Thank you for taking the time to share your personal opinion. New seasonal hires start currently at $15/hour, and also have signing and retention bonus opportunities since they are limited with benefit offerings, and most core staff make well over that figure. Increases this year were well above average for most team members, and the rates were set by the Board prior to seeing inflation increase so dramatically thanks to factors outside of our control at Diggers Hotline. The benefits at Diggers Hotline far exceed many other companies which makes the total compensation package above average.
