Pros
Good pay for higher education, and great benefits. The best part about DeVry was the people- great employees who have a good work ethic and really care about the students.
Cons
The cons far outweigh the pros and it ends up feeling like a toxic environment. I have never been overworked or micromanaged to the level I was while working at DeVry. They monitor every second you are logged into the phones, and you have only a few minutes between calls to write follow up emails and update all your systems (and there are many) before getting an IM asking why you aren’t back in Ready Status. It’s baffling- there’s so many departments to contact, so many cumbersome business processes to work around that its quite stressful to do all of that within 2 min between calls. Thing slip easily through the cracks here because the focus is not on caring for the student and doing whatever we can for them, but hurrying to go back into Ready to maintain our SLAs. In all of my one on one meetings here, we never talked about advancement or anything else besides “what can you do to decrease your Not Ready time?” With all the complaints and uncertainty surrounding DeVry, why is management’s focus always only on SLAs? Shouldn’t it be about student retention and how we can care for them better?
