Pros

They offer paid time off on birthdays and close on holidays. They encourage you to play with the product in store as a demo for incoming customers as well as have their employees learn what the do and how they work. The location I was at was very flexible with scheduling so it was a great place for students or people with other employment to work.

Cons

They can be a little stingy with pay increases. I worked for the company for many years and barely got above minimum wage as they gave us our "raises" to coincide with the minimum wage increases each year (when the government raised it to $15/hour). They have benefits, but you were only able to sign up or alter your plan once a year. If you started shortly after that sign-up period expired, you must wait an entire year to get benefits. Also, when our location closed, we were kind of let down with the severance. Because of COVID and the temporary lay offs, those that had been with the company for years before COVID and years afterwards were not given credit for the years worked before in regards to the amount of severance we were paid. They saved money on a technicality.

Pros

It used to have a good amount of discounts for employees until Renaud bray cut off those many benefits and discounts Deserres used to offer.

Cons

Renaud bray purchase of the company sucked the soul of the artist within the ranks.

Pros

The people I work with are awesome and the job is pretty chill and rewarding as far as retail goes

Cons

If you stay for a long time you will have more and more responsibilities added without sufficient pay increases (sometimes with no pay increase). New parent company is known for aggressive union busting with multiple locations of their book store going on strike recently and I don't see them improving anything except profits. Other recent policy changes (like removing the points program entirely etc) have been putting us in a difficult situation with customers, even regulars are telling us that they are going elsewhere for art supplies now.
