Pros
I was happy to hear early on in my interview process that projects at Dataminr are flexible, and I've absolutely found that to be true since starting. I've been working here nearly half a year and have had a perfect mix of being a productive software engineer while also developing other new, useful skills I'm interested in, such as machine learning on spark. Being surrounded by brilliant people has greatly facilitated all of that. The people are great. The company does a lot to foster social events, often helping subsidize them. I've been out with coworkers to play sports, do karaoke, meet at a bar, or play board games. The office has all the perks of a tech company that is able to attract serious talent: comfortable office, two catered meals every day, snacks, subsidized gym memberships, amazing health plan, and an HR department that is very responsive and helpful. Overall I truly enjoy coming to work, being productive, having my work appreciated, and having the opportunity to learn more about software engineering and machine learning every day.
Cons
Very minor, but I figure I should at least put something: There are sometimes roadblocks to accessing resources because some IT-related tasks haven't evolved from the times when the company was much smaller, but those are often just a one-time issue, and I'm sure that will get fixed eventually.
