Good Company, Great Product, Ineffective Middle Management - Product Marketing Datadog Employee Review

Pros

Datadog is a great culture that attracts highly talented employees. Customers love the product and we're the clear winner in the space now. I also met tons of great colleagues and peers in Product, which made the day-to-day work very fun, despite occasional high-pressure seasons. Finally, WLB is great. We produce good work, go home, and fully shut off. No one is expected to work after hours, evenings, or weekends.

Cons

The Marketing org is maturing, and with it, comes new leadership. Datadog is losing its roots as a technical product loved by developers. Our CMO reports to the COO, both in the SF office. They worked together before at Salesforce. However, Marketing and Product now have very little shared direction or vision at the C-level. For ICs, regular breakdowns between PMMs and PMs is common. Promotions, staffing, and resourcing feel arbitrary. Middle management layer is ineffective or absent, and I was left to fend for myself day-to-day.
