Pros

Sundays guaranteed off, if working in chronic units

Cons

No promotional clinical ladder for nurses who desire to improve dialysis care and communication by remaining at the chair side of patients. Davita assumes we all want to advance as managers--what a loss to nursing! Think about it--the RN is the last line of defense against a medical error (dialysis order or drug given), the staff member who multitasks a dozen patients at one time, monitoring, receiving and deciphering MD orders, accountable for the actions of LVN and technicians, charting accurately.....Davita should consider it a beautiful asset to retain an RN who is content to excel in the clinical arena, and reward accordingly. You designed the "Clinical Coordinator" role as yet another manager, subtracting one more hands-on nurse off the floor (the remaining floor nurses were reduced to essentially grunt nurses with minimal collaboration to make change.

Pros

Patient connections is rewarding work, great hands on experience, paid on the job training, training for PCTs is at least consistent.

Cons

12+ hour long hours, emotionally and physically taxing, unqualified management, poor communication, inconsistent scheduling, high turn over, very little amount of opportunity for movement within the company despite preaching that they encourage it. The culture and values are heavily spoken about with little to no enforcement. The position requires significant dedication to learn all the moving parts of the clinic.
