Pros
Lots of hours during the outage...so it's a quick money builder. You also can travel to plants all across the country and visit lots of places. You can contract as much or as little as you'd like. The pay is great if you can acquire a craft position.
Cons
The hours are long. 72-84 hour weeks, the job can last from 1 week to 3 years....you just never know. There is TONS of nepotism. You could be the wife of a crane operator, with no experience, and they'd bring you in as a supervisor over people that have had experience or more qualified. No paid holidays. No double time or triple time. Just your base pay and time and a half. If you start as a laborer it is extremely hard to leave unless you know someone, sleep with someone, or are related to someone.
