Pros
The location is the only remotely positive benefit. Unless you are a recent immigrant or desperately looking for some laboratory experience, my advice is to stay well away.
Cons
This company has one of the highest staff turn over rates in Australia which is not at all surprising. There is no variation in the work; you spend every minute of every day doing microbiological testing aside from cleaning of laboratory areas at the end of the working day. There is no feeling of a healthy working culture or a cohesive team environment, nor opportunities for personal growth and development.
The worst aspect of working at DTS is by far the management within the microbiology department who are all incompetent and have zero compassion or sympathy if you are ill or sick. The measurable KPI's set by management is also often unattainable due to the automated machine used to label and dispense the various plates is often broken due to inadequate funding to repair the machine to a continuously working standard. You are also expected to stand all day long aside from break times, and to stand on a hard concrete floor. There is also a severe lack of safety within the workplace, with trolleys crammed in the media storage fridges so you are forced to navigate around narrow areas in order to reach consumables.
