Pros

- Innovative: The company thrives on innovation, which creates an inspiring and dynamic work environment. It's truly a place where creativity is valued. - Great People: The team here is exceptional. The camaraderie and collaboration among colleagues make it a pleasure to come to work every day. - Evolving Service Offering: The company is continuously evolving its service offerings, staying at the forefront of industry trends. This adaptability ensures that employees are always engaged in exciting projects. - Opportunities for Growth: The company provides ample opportunities for personal and professional growth. Whether you're looking to climb the corporate ladder or broaden your skill set, there's room for advancement. - New/Fresh VPs: The recent addition of new and fresh VPs has injected new energy and ideas into the organization. Their leadership promises exciting developments for the company's future.

Cons

- Outdated HR and Upper-Management Policies: The company's HR and upper-management policies feel extremely outdated. The rigid reliance on badge swipes, the confinement to cubicles, and the sense of micromanagement from higher-ups make for an uncomfortable work environment. - Legacy Inefficiencies: The organization continues to struggle with inefficiencies stemming from outdated work practices. These legacy methods hinder productivity and progress. - Digital Transformation in Its Infancy: While the world is advancing rapidly in the digital realm, the company is just beginning to dip its toes into what is considered "digital." There's a considerable gap between the company's current practices and modern digital standards. - Resistance to Modernization: It appears that upper leadership is either hesitant or unaware of the need for true digital modernization and broader organizational change. This resistance to change hinders progress. - Top-Down Management: The company's management style is predominantly top-down, lacking autonomy and trust in its employees. This approach stifles creativity and initiative. In some areas of the company, extreme fear governs reporting structures. - Complex Hierarchy: The hierarchical structure within the company is overly complex, with multiple managers who seem to lack genuine decision-making power. This creates confusion and inefficiency. - Limited Benefits for Non-Leadership: The benefits package offered to non-leadership employees is subpar, leaving many feeling undervalued and undercompensated. - Layoffs and Operational Challenges: The company has experienced layoffs and seems to be grappling with operational debt, which has created a sense of job insecurity among employees. In conclusion, there is a pressing need for the company to modernize its practices, embrace a more flexible and employee-centric approach, and offer better benefits to retain and attract talent. Addressing these issues would go a long way in improving the overall employee experience.

Pros

Good middle management and compensation. Lots of opportunities to learn from plenty of smart people.

Cons

Disclaimer -This is all water cooler hearsay and opinion. During the two years I was there the bill came due on being penny wise and dollar dumb over the years. A great example is Sling. Dish beat basically everyone to market but Netflix with streaming and was the first platform to offer live TV via stream (which YouTube TV still uses as a selling point). What happened? Dish paid the original engineers to build it and then balked at paying them to document and maintain it. Same deal with the cyber security team. After years of expecting security engineers to do exceptional work shorthanded for middling compensation eventually they had none. It was all put on the security manager, who had a heart attack after repeatedly requesting support. He understandably did not return. Not much later one of the core systems was ransomed, and the company fell out of the fortune 500. Despite being in the middle of dealing with the consequences of those decisions leadership was doing it all again with the mobile network build out.

Hearing that you found value in our middle management and compensation, as well as the chance to learn from the talented individuals on our teams, is encouraging. We appreciate you recognizing those aspects of your time with us. On the other hand, the historical context and concerns you shared regarding executive decision-making, infrastructure maintenance, and resource allocation are deeply concerning. Maintaining a stable, secure, and well-supported environment for our workforce is of the utmost importance, and we take feedback regarding employee well-being and operational decisions seriously. We are continually working to strengthen our operations and better support our teams across all business units. Because this review references a sensitive medical situation alongside organizational challenges, we would welcome the opportunity to hear more about your perspective. Please consider reaching out to our team directly at peopleoperations@dish.com so we can learn more.
