Pros

For a College Graduate coming into this as a first job, this is just about the best job if you want the following: 1. To learn as much as possible, as quickly as possible, about Supply Chain as a whole . 2. To gain high level management skills by being thrown into the fire 3. Make it "to the top" of the industry, in terms of knowledge, as fast as possible 4. If you consider yourself extremely driven and a hard worker 5. Consider yourself "hard to rattle" and very much an extrovert Overall this experience is a good way to get a crash course in SCM, as long as you are willing to accept what that is going to take. Get in and get out after a year, or 2 if you can handle it.

Cons

These pro's are great, but they are all that DHL explains to you when you are applying and being recruited from College and they came at a cost. The following are some examples: 1. For the first year, you will almost certainly work on a night shift (either 3pm-11pm or 11pm - 7am) 2. You will be getting there at LEAST an hour before your shift and often times staying anywhere from 1 - 4 hours after the shift depending on your site. 3. Hardly anybody makes it past a year from the college recruit program because of these reasons: 3a. You will be worked harder than anybody you graduated with and most likely make less (Standard right now is $52,500 out of college) 3b. You will miss out on most of your life that year 3c. No matter what they say, Management (except for a few diamonds in the rough) do NOT care about you, they are trying to stay afloat. 3d. No matter how well you do, the few negative things will be the main daily talking points *** 3e. For example, I had 10 guys and girls I started with around the country that I got to know: 8 of them have already left after a year, and the last 2 are desperately trying to find another job. 4. The people that generally succeed here from this role are generally the "a-hole leaders" that only care about getting promoted, and they generally do not know what they are doing and push you to make up for it 5. It will probably take you about 4-5 years to make it to an OM position, making ~$70,000, and your first OM role will be a "disaster site" or a start up, where you will work more than you ever have before. 6. You will not have even the slightest work life balance 7. Everyone in upper management brags about how much they work and have worked in the past. The first and most common tip I got was to "never calculate how much I made per hour" If you think you can handle these things for a year, I'd say absolutely go for it. It's great experience. Some of the Con's are just a part of being the base level of Supply Chain, but some of them could definitely be fixed or worked on. BUT, if you don't think you can handle this, please consider other options. It will make even the hardest and smartest workers second guess their abilities.

Pros

Easy position. Easy to get lost as a cog in the machine.

Cons

It can be very toxic and isolating. Your site is basically a micro-culture of DHL as a whole. And if your GM or Supervisor doesn’t like you very much, there’s not a lot you can do about the toxic behavior.
