Pros
DAT is a small software development company that services the trucking industry. Think Match.com but for truckers and shippers. While DAT has been around for 40 years, it's got a small company feel and they really treat their employees like people and not a number. I've worked for large companies and working at DAT has been refreshing. The working environment is open with very few offices. Every workstation utilizes dual monitors and adjustable height desks to enhance productivity. The executive staff is approachable and if you like working for a company where your voice can be heard, DAT is the place. What makes DAT special are the frequent social events that are hosted nearly every week. Company paid lunches delivered by rotating food trucks, social events of every type including homemade breakfasts, full hot lunches, ice cream socials and after-hours beer and wine events. These social events foster a collaborative environment through interaction with people you don't normally work with, creating a vibrant team spirit across the organization.
Cons
Not many companies can boast double-digit growth in revenue, over the last two years, but that is exactly what DAT has been experiencing. So DAT is adding significant staff to their development, product and QA teams. As a result, DAT is experiencing growing pains that you would expect to see at any company where substantial growth is taking place. This includes a fair amount of uncertainty at how legacy products will change, how new initiatives will evolve and how teams will be allocated. While DAT offers a very comprehensive benefits package, medical co-pays and deductibles are higher than what you would expect to see at comparable companies in the Portland metro area.
