Pros

The healthcare benefits were excellent

Cons

While my tenure provided valuable experiences, it is crucial to address certain concerns that may impact prospective candidates in the future. One of the predominant issues within the organization is a discernible pattern of favoritism overshadowing meritocracy. Despite advocating for a workplace environment where talent and dedication should be paramount, it became apparent that certain individuals were favored over others, regardless of their actual contributions or performance. Moreover, there seemed to be a systemic tendency to promote individuals with questionable work quality and proficiency. This concerning trend not only undermines the ethos of quality and excellence but also erodes the confidence of employees who strive for genuine progress and innovation within their roles. Exemplary work often resulted in increased workloads rather than appropriate recognition or support. An alarming observation was the persistence of individuals lacking fundamental computer skills in managerial positions. While diversity in skills and backgrounds can be advantageous, entrusting critical leadership roles to individuals unprepared for the technological demands of the modern workplace hampers efficiency and inhibits progress. The prevalence of micromanagement I experienced further exacerbated existing challenges, stifling creativity, autonomy, and my morale. I was frequently told to email certain stakeholders when, historically (and for years), I had always been emailing the correct people when needed. Perhaps one of the most disheartening occurrences during my time was the extensive layoff of numerous capable employees. This came after waves of hiring, and then, of course, many more were hired after the layoffs. Short term gains are incentivized over long term stability and growth.

Pros

Highly niche area; very interesting products and services

Cons

At the time, executive leadership was highly controlling and had shifted from the product-led, innovation strategy that the company was founded on to a sales-led strategy that had significant impacts to the internal culture. Good to see that leadership has changed - hopefully for the better.
