Pros

After careful thought and in light of the events in the last year or so I can not seem to list any " best reasons " to work for Conway freight, but I will say that I have made some fine friends while employed there, the equipment is fair to good. However that"s about it, except for the health insurance package, Now it is a very good one, but that to is not expected too survive the changes that are being made at Conway freight, but then again that is only speculation, but is based on past history with Conway freight.

Cons

Management, They do not know who brought them to the dance, The drivers and customers are the heart of this company, They, cut driver wages, stop contributions to pensions, and steal vacations, Yet they sponsor a race truck, truck driving rodeo, they have company cars leased at a cost of over 2 million dollars a year, Yet they closed forty service centers and laid off 2500 employees. They lie , spin truth , steal from, take advantage of , they hide behind an antiquated law so that they do not have to pay overtime , and in general do not care about the most important asset they have DRIVER"s

Pros

Dynamic & challenging organization - recent acquisitions have provided tremendous growth opportunities for Con-way's stock and employees. No two days are ever the same...in a good way. Doug Stotlar is a strong, big picture leader with a level of integrity that is unheard of at that level. He is genuinely interested in getting to know employees. He devotes a full weekend to "talk shop" with the employees who are selected as CEO Constellation winners - an award given to a select group of employees who exhibit Con-way's core values day in & day out. Doug not only shares his vision with them, but solicits and LISTENS to their concerns, ideas, and questions about the company. Con-way's total rewards package - benefits & compensation - is one of the best in the industry, if not corporate America.

Cons

Tenure of many senior leaders creates pockets of "we've always done it this way" & resistance to change. I don't think Con-way can consistently be a leader in transportation and logistics when many of the leaders have spent their entire adult working lives in this organization. Con-way needs to continue to bring in senior leaders from other industries and competitors to ensure we are looking at best practices, not just traditional practices. For many years, employees who were willing to devote their every waking moment to Con-way and be a "yes man" were the individuals who were rewarded and promoted. This mentality still exists in some pockets of the company.
