Pros

Staff are really passionate about the cause. They do provide free access to the Calm mental health app and have a good employee benefits scheme.

Cons

Top heavy organisation. There is an awful lot of micromanagement. Divide and conquer type attitude by some of the management. Staff are generally overworked and underappreciated. Flexible working is a concept that isn't favoured by GLT and has caused a number of excellent staff to leave. No TOIL policy yet you are expected to work overtime, and my some managers, at their level as if you live to work not work to live.

Pros

Very driven team. I don't know someone who doesn't believe in our mission to reform our food system! Very collaborative environment, especially in US Office and across global Food Business team. Supportive US HR department. HR/Ops is always available to hop on a call and try to support. Food Business Leadership is strong and becoming more integrated globally. CIWF works on all species, which is nice to feel like we are impacting all animals - including broiler chickens, pigs, laying hens, and cows. Fish in the future! The vision of a regenerative food system is very strong, especially on the Food Business team. In US, good PTO and time off policy. 403B contribution is decent too. Good work-life balance in USA, but you have to ensure YOU log off and uphold a work-life balance yourself.

Cons

Career growth can be limited. Unless someone leaves, promotion is VERY limited, if not impossible. Merit based raises rarely happen. Unless your JD changes somehow, you are not guaranteed a raise. There are occasional global cost of living increases (2%-5%) that happen each year, but it's not guaranteed. Salaries have gotten higher over the years, but still lower overall in US Market. Hopefully leadership addresses this as we continue to grow. Global Leadership Team, including CEO, seems very distant and disconnected from the staff. He does not seem interested in improving personnel issues, company morale, or DEI issues. (He seems more interested in promoting his book tour.) There are a lot of people under him that believe in this and are driving organization change (chomping at the bit to reform!) but it ultimately comes down to GLT & the CEO making the call.

The people are kind and dedicated to helping animals. Vacation and paid parental leave is generous.

Pay is low for a US-based nonprofit.
