Pros

- Ability to have work/life balance in consulting (you don't have to manage early morning/late night meetings to accommodate off-shore teams) - Educational opportunities (they have a partnership with edX where you can take online courses for free through top-ranked universities) - Open door policy with leadership: despite their busy schedules, I know they are always easily accessible through Slack if any questions arise - Remote options + flexibility - The CXG Team (sounds cheesy, but they are truly some of the most friendly, down-to-earth people I've ever met - ESPECIALLY in the business world) This is the first company I've worked for where I've been able to name all of my team members and also know their family members as well Coming from a large company (200K+ people) where I was often told "That's just the way we do it", CompassX was definitely a positive change where I finally felt heard and could see my suggestions put into action. I appreciate that they value "breadth vs. depth", and encourage you to expand your current knowledge and skillsets, versus being stuck in your current pathway. The holidays are definitely my favorite time with the company, as they have provided a full Thanksgiving dinner from Marie Calendars for my entire family (which saved me from SO much time and stress). I also look forward to the Company's Holiday Party each year, which brings the team and our families all together to celebrate with a nice dinner and tons of giveaways. Despite us being primarily remote, the events committee works hard to put together events that are fun and brings the team together (both in-person and virtually). I appreciate that they cater to various interests (Top Golf, Virtual Escape Room, Duffy Boat Scavenger Hunt, Wine Tasting, etc.) With the upcoming uncertainty in the economy, the leadership team has been very transparent with us on the health of the company - which luckily is going strong, and we are still growing the team (despite the massive layoffs that have been occurring throughout the tech world).

Cons

Companies I have worked for previously have offered more PTO (4 weeks vs. 3 weeks a year) more paid holidays and more sick time. However, they were a much larger size, had more resources, and significantly less work/life balance. When it comes down to it, you need to pick what you value, and for me personally, it was balancing day-to-day vs. vacations. That being said, the leadership team conducted many external surveys this year to better evaluate and prioritize our benefits package based on our team members' responses/requests and announced at our last "All Hands" meeting the new positive changes coming in 2023 (another floating holiday + 401K matching, etc). I will be honest, there are definitely growing pains (hence the 4 stars vs. 5-star rating). With being a newish/smaller company, there are not always the same resources that are available with larger firms. That's where I'm grateful that we have such a passionate and proactive team who are always quick to volunteer and see employee-driven initiatives come to life (increasing educational opportunities, more events, revamp of the website, etc).

Thank you for recognizing the opportunities that CompassX provides our team for growth, direct connection to leaders, and fun networking events with some of the best “down to earth people” you’ve come across in the business world. We’re grateful that you understand the time the leadership team carves out each month to connect with every single one of our employees. Each company executive has about 10 employees with whom they meet each month for a direct 1:1. Additionally, our President and Founder meets with small groups of 3-5 people each month to cover a variety of topics and to gather ideas on everything from new directions to simply identifying what we need to change. One of those ideas, as you highlighted, was the need for more formalized training, which spawned an internal project to evaluate and select an on-demand training solution for our team members. As you also mentioned, based on feedback from team members such as yourself we have indeed increased PTO/holidays and versioned up our retirement plan. We will continue to prioritize open communication, feedback channels, and inclusiveness! We are excited to have you as part of our growing team! - CompassX Executive Leadership Team

Pros

I joined CompassX from a mid-sized consulting firm and so far it's been a great move. I feel like my perspectives and experience are valued and are seen as a benefit to the company, and the people who I work with really seem to care. The work itself feels meaningful, with interesting projects where each win (big or small) seems to have a big impact and celebrated by everyone. Since joining, the practice areas seem to be evolving and maturing, and I've been able to sharpen my skills by being pushed outside my comfort zone at times. Unlike my last company, there are no mandatory CompassX office days, but I know where the leaders or colleagues are each week if I want to meet in person. I've also enjoyed the in person events and other team meet ups,

Cons

As it's a small firm, sometimes there can be missing pieces or gaps e.g. there aren’t always standardized tools, predefined templates or playbooks like at larger consultancies. Sometimes this means more freedom to do things your own way, but can be frustrating if starting from scratch too often. The teams are pretty lean so work can get busy for short bursts of time to meet client expectations. Also need to be willing to wear multiple hats or flex into other areas to keep the show on the road.

Thank you for the thoughtful review – we’re so glad to hear your experience at CompassX has been a meaningful one so far. Creating an environment where people feel valued, supported, and challenged is crucial to us, so it’s great to hear that this is reflected in your experience. We also appreciate your perspective on where we can continue to evolve – as a growing firm, we know there’s still work to do in building out more structure and tools. Thanks again for being part of the journey – we’re lucky to have you on the team! - CompassX Team
