Pros
*speaking here about Build Commonwealth (MA); I don’t have the ability in this interface to double check this is the right one without getting logged out (?)
Plenty of opportunity to talk with clients and potential beneficiaries of pilot programs and experiments to really understand their needs and brainstorm together how to help them; coworkers were empathetic, driven, and fun
Cons
Ironically low compensation for the industry, given they assist low to middle income people with gaining financial stability (in 2019 pay was $43-47k for innovation & accelerator team specialists; managers were only slightly higher. Catch, a competitor, was paying double). It was even worse because they could definitely afford to pay more while I was there, according to people then familiar with the finances. There was high turnover as a result, and stressful senior management. They framed the strong interest in open positions as a good reflection on them, but they really should’ve been honest and reflected on why people were so keen to leave.
