horribly low pay, terrible communication, pathetic curriculum - English Teacher Class100 Employee Review

Pros

If you enjoy teaching in a classroom (in spite of having to deal with local teachers that don't know much outside of rote learning approaches), the large classes are great.

Cons

- even based on their newest shift plan, teachers only average about $10/hour if you divide the shift time by the average number of classes - you are deluged with random Skype messages from multiple people about which class wants what, and updated real-time with gripes about literally anything under the sun from local teachers whose English is often so poor they don't understand what you are trying to do in class - if classes are cancelled (by the school), they are deducted, giving the company an excuse not to pay you for the full shift on that day. WARNING: Class100 pays for glassdoor reviews, so that may account for some of the glowing ones you see on here. I was approached earlier this year to write a paid review as well.

Pros

The staff is helpful and supportive. You get to know them on a more personal level, as this is a small company with a handful of support staff doing many jobs, such as technical support, scheduling, training and sharing updates. Communication is friendly and prompt. The classes are fun to teach and the students have a lot of energy. My skills and creativity as an ESL teacher have greatly improved through Class100's training and my experience teaching with them. The pay is fair and the available hours are all daytime Beijing Time, so it is the perfect supplement company for those who teach ESL in the evening BJT hours with private companies. If you are looking to work full time in the online ESL industry, Class100 + any private company in the evening is the way to go. Overall, my experience has been positive and I look forward to continuing as a Teacher with Class100.

Cons

Occasionally, it can be difficult to work with the some of the local Chinese Teachers in the classroom. Sometimes it feels like you are not the one in charge of the class, and the Chinese Teachers do not understand what you are asking for in English. It can be an awkward dynamic. Also, you have to memorize your lesson delivery beforehand. The Lesson Guide / Teaching Tips are not available for you to view while teaching. If you forget how to deliver part of a lesson or you forget the exact grammar phrase or vocabulary words, you are out of luck.
