Pros

Although the reputation is awful, and it is very beauracratic, there is some great human capital at the firm. You will have access to innovative products and extensive research, both funamental and technical.

Cons

seemingly impossible for most people to advance to "front office" roles. specifically in Smith Barney, most financial advisors do not add value for their clients. in a tough market environment, this has become very evident. management and advisors focus solely on sales, and not enough on knowledge and market savvy. to call many of them "used car salesman" would be a fair assesment. also will not pay for graduate level education or certifications like the CFA.

Pros

Great benefits. Everyone is friendly and helpful. They do more than just pay lip service to work life balance

Cons

Like any job, the manager is the one that can make or break the position

Pros

Great benefits (PTO, healthcare, etc.) for FTEs

Cons

Everything else - Carousel of management changes - Vague and ever-changing role/job descriptions and associated metrics - The constant feeling that we're all about to be laid off but must "prove" our value in the meantime
