Some great people, need to buck their ideas up if they want to keep them... - Technical Writer Chess Dynamics Employee Review

Pros

Many of the people working there, especially in the lower echelons, are fantastic. It offers a varied amount of work and the projects are interesting. I had a lot of good years at Chess and the engineering team in particular is excellent to work with.

Cons

The level of remuneration offered for the work expected is not inline with the national average, lip service is paid to benchmarking but it only happens for some people. Opportunities for progression within the company are extremely hit or miss. There are some people who progress through the ranks with alarming speed and others who, despite every effort, are constantly overlooked. Questioning of some managers actions can be met with extreme hostility and taking this further was met with vey bad treatment. There is very much a "don't rock the boat" attitude in evidence. Projects are rushed and frequently chronically under resourced and important factors such as documentation and training are very much treated as an afterthought by some people.

Pros

Some lovely colleagues who go above and beyond to make the work place functional. Half day Friday Good benefits package

Cons

One rule for one, one rule for another. The senior management team at the Plymouth site stumble from one project to another normally leaving a burning trail in their wake. It does not help that some of the personalities seem to have been around before dinosaurs roamed the planet and have similar attitudes to match.
