Nobody should have to cry at work for such little pay - Casting Assistant Central Casting Employee Review

Pros

Some of the best coworkers I have ever worked with. A genuinely fun group to be around, both in and out of work (REMEMBER: they are coworkers, not friends). No cost health insurance.

Cons

THOSE SEEKING CASTING STAFF POSITIONS: Please note that most of these positive reviews are from background actors, not from casting staff. Be sure to filter by position. Abysmally low pay, especially for the workload. Highly questionable management tactics. Hard to get work done when you’re constantly answering calls from background actors, with no middleman between the direct line and the assistants. Absolutely no room for the networking or growth opportunities you may think you will get.

Pros

Often free food when you work on set. Overtime is fantastic with California acting law. Kinda fun to refresh the Facebook page to see casting calls, and guess what it’s for. For me, I was on set a few times and it made for some good stories.

Cons

Not as many jobs as you think are available unless you are older, especially a man. Makes sense though since the city is saturated by young people looking to “make it”. Most filming is during the week day and it can range from 4 hours to 12.
