Pros
The overwhelming majority of nurses there truly want to make a difference and to care for their patients. They've made some great patient-oriented changes, like with dietary menu.
Cons
Staff cuts have made this a less than favorable environment to work and pt safety is at risk. If there aren't shortages, then nurses shouldn't be REQUIRED to work additional 8 or more hours. You cannot give "excellent care every time" without the support of management. Some areas are much stronger in this respect than others. Not keeping seasoned nurses. It is NOT a salary issue! New grads, do yourself a favor. Before you go into a high pressure, high stress area, like ER or critical care, get a year of nursing experience. It goes a long way in helping to prevent burnout and realize that you have chosen a difficult field and the reality of it is hard! Don't precept with someone who just graduated last year. Chances are, she's still learning too!
