Pros
Kind, dedicated, professional staff. The organization has integrity and everyone really cares about justice for immigrants. The Director is phenomenal, really dynamic and effective. Free catered monthly organization-wide meetings, religious tolerance (whether Catholic or not), supportive atmosphere, convenient location near metro, beltway, and restaurants. Extremely family friendly. Staff from all over the world. Excellent benefits.
Cons
Many decisions need to be cleared at multiple levels and it can take a really long time to move on new ideas because of the need for approval. The board is mainly Bishops and other clergy. There is a lot of politics and protocol related to Catholicism and most decisions need to be vetted. The vetting process can be large, arduous, and confusing. Many staff members are resistant to change, especially if they are used to operating in a certain way. The function of the organization can be confusing because it is the umbrella of so many affiliates and because it performs several functions. People are sometimes overwhelmed because they have so many responsibilities. Once you specialize in something you may be pidgeon-holed. People and departments tend to stay in silos.
