Pros

Pro- Rewarding work. Just as much as performance intimidated me, when I saw my personal progress and the financial gain I was making as a young 23-year-old woman, I closed the door on other opportunities and decided this was the one for me. I’ve always prioritized being my best, but in other jobs I still was compensated the same as my peers who were doing below average work. I even got passed up for promotion because one man had “been there longer and had more experience” even though I had been outperforming him for months. Catalyst Leadership Group is the first company to actually recognize my hard work and promote me because of my performance and work ethic. Second, I’ve learned practical life/business skills. Dealing with customers face to face has taught me to become an excellent communicator. I’ve noticed the difference in how I talk to just about anyone and my ability to make just about anyone listen/value what I have to say. It’s DRASTICALLY improved my confidence. The management training program in the office sharpened my professional skills. I’ve learned how to manage, lead, interview, and train people. I’m now confident even if I decided to leave Catalyst, I’d be a valuable asset to any company, and I’d beat out any other candidate because of my real-life experience Last, I think, is the environment and culture of Catalyst. We talk a lot about having a work hard, play hard mentality and we really do. I’ve made some of my best friendships outside of my hometown with the people here at Catalyst. It’s refreshing to be part of a company with such synergy and genuine care for its’ people and their progress.

Cons

Cons- Hard work. The company specializes in face to face customer acquisition, meaning dealing with new/existing customers directly. It’s a challenge because any job dealing with people is going to entail rejection. Second, it’s not a traditional “9-5” opportunity. I list this as a con only because when I started in the company right after college, I had the expectation that any job was a “9-5”. My mom was in government and my dad a special education teacher, so that was the schedule I’d been around my whole like. It took some adjusting to when I first started. Last, I’d say getting over the nervous of a performance-based industry. Again, my family was government workers, so the idea of performance pay/advancement made me nervous because it all relied on me to happen.

Creating a place where people feel supported, challenged, and able to grow is something we care deeply about. Our team truly believes in the “work hard, play hard” mindset, and it’s great to hear that reflected in your experience. We also appreciate the honest note about travel — because our work focuses on in-person collaboration and client engagement, getting to different locations is definitely part of the role. Pros

I took six months off from college and worked here during the winter and spring semester, and i really loved the opportunity. I had no sales experience when i joined the team at CLG, and left with so much more of an understanding of the sales industry. My major is centered around business/marketing and In three years in college i haven't learned as much as i did at Catalyst Leadership Group. Some of their core values are integrity, culture and team focus, as well as providing a great work environment and they came through on all of those. When i graduate this winter i will definitely keep them in mind.

Cons

I really don't see it as a negative, but if you don't want to work hard don't apply here. This job for sure requires you to do more than your average 9-5 desk/office job will. My parents raised me with a very strong work ethic, and i played sports from the age i could walk throughout high school. If i wanted to earn any sort of captain or leadership role on those teams i had to practice longer and work harder than everyone else on the team. CLG awards their team members with bonuses and promotions based on the work they put in. Again, if you are afraid of hard work this role probably isn't for you.

We’re grateful you chose to spend your semester break with Catalyst Leadership Group and that the experience helped introduce you to the sales industry in a meaningful way. Hearing that you were able to gain hands-on knowledge and develop skills that complemented your business and marketing studies is exactly what we hope to provide for team members who join us without prior sales experience. Our team works hard to create an environment centered around integrity, culture, and teamwork while also giving people the opportunity to grow through real-world experience. It’s great to hear that those values came through during your time here. You’re absolutely right that this role requires dedication, effort, and a strong work ethic. We believe in rewarding individuals who put in the work with opportunities for advancement, leadership development, and performance-based incentives. Thank you again for being part of the team, and we’re excited to hear you may consider Catalyst Leadership Group again after graduation. Wishing you the best as you finish school and move forward in your career.
