Pros

Benefits are unbeatable. Where else are you going to get 15% of your salary put aside in a retirement fund? Matching 401k contributions doesn't even come close to that. There are perks galore at Capital, and the work/life balance is good. People are generally nice, especially if you land on a good team with a competent manager who goes to bat for you. Overtime is minimal and you get plenty of free catered lunches, fresh fruit left out for associates, educational opportunities and if they believe you are worthwhile they will take into the ranks, where you can remain indefinitely.

Cons

As many downsides are there are perks, sadly, but it does even out into a very neutral working experience. There is a conformity at Capital that encourages a CG style of conducting yourself. The pressure is great to conform and if you question the system you're called out for being "difficult." Opinions are valued and consensus is important there, but the side effect is that you have no ownership of your work and can't make decisions independently; you have to conduct a million meetings and contact 100 people just to answer the question of how to tie your shoelaces. It can also be very Office Spacey with nonsensical TPS report-type things, endless meetings that help you Plan How to Plan and wasted time in corporate training. It's a big company and it's easy to get lost in the crowd and feel like you have nothing to contribute, often because you're not really allowed to contribute if that means rocking the boat.

Pros

The bonuses and CSRP of 15% as well as many benefits are unmatched. I enjoy many of my colleagues and have made life long friends.

Cons

It was a great place to work and many will continue to feel that way until they are affected like those of us in the Norfolk Virginia office. There is no loyalty from the company and people are replaced either by a “vision“ of technology that doesn’t yet even exist within the organization or by cheap labor “offshore“. I thought I would retire from here and now I find myself out of a job after over 20 years before the end of 2027.
