Cons
They put on a face to the public that they’re politically bipartisan but that is a bold faced lie. There is a large leftist bias among staff. -Ideologically driven. Have a skewed view on cultural and social issues. This is an extremely political environment where everyone has a hive mind, there are no alternative opinions or critical thinking abilities. Issues affecting Calgarians are discussed from a leftist perspective and applied to almost everyone, as if most people agree without nuance. Out of touch and think of themselves as morally superior. Right leaning politicians, especially the Premier of Alberta, and conservative voters are ridiculed, but there is little to no critique of left leaning politicians. They believe right leaning people should be ashamed of their beliefs. Everything is analyzed through DEI glasses where people are categorized based on their race, gender and sexuality. DEI is forced onto employees. DEI is integrated into external events and internal initiatives including training sessions. Topics feature white privilege, oppression and privilege. Staff are expected to embrace DEI. All initiatives have DEI at the forefront. DEI is the exact language that’s being used. There is a push to disassociate Calgary from western heritage, the oil and gas sector, and white people. They are embarrassed of Calgary’s western history. For evidence, just take a look at the new Calgary brand. There’s an internal belief that Alberta and Calgary’s traditional conservative political leaning is a deterrent to non locals who may want to move to the city. Yet anyone can see how much the population has grown over the past few years, so that’s clearly not true. They will fire permanent employees and in favour of replacing them with employees under a contract. Certain managers have with poor leadership skills. They don’t give timely and constructive feedback. Instead they’ll wait for months to officially write up complaints in employee reviews when staff can’t improve or defend themselves. Requested proof of medical intervention to stay employed after initially admitting that there were too many opinions and they weren’t going to require it. Staff pressured other staff to get medical intervention.
