Pros

Great earning potential. Great work life balance. You can feel proud going to work every day, knowing you're making a difference.

Cons

Some business owners are happy getting a free ride by all the great work CFIB does. The turnover is definitely a con, although you can't attribute all of that to the organization. Most if not all of the complaints on glass door are from less than stellar sales people who expected business owners to flock to them. Good sales people do very well in this organization. Yes you have to go to work everyday and put in a solid effort. Those who do, generally succeed.

Thanks for the very positive note. Yes, some of the more challenging reviews of CFIB on Glassdoor are from former employees who did not do well or from those who did not consider this a full-time job. Still, others have provided constructive criticism or suggestions on how we can improve as an employer. I am pleased to note that many of the suggestions made by current and former staff (particularly about the compensation structure for District Mangers) have already been implemented or are on their way in the weeks ahead. I agree with your assessment that good sales people do very well at CFIB. One of the things of which I am very proud is the fact that 90% of our 110,000 members get a personal visit from one of our District Managers each year. We are very lucky to have over 200 District Managers doing this role every day. Thanks again for writing and sharing your perspective after over five years at CFIB. As you note, while there are lots of places one can work to earn a good living, we at CFIB have the added benefit of knowing we are doing something that really makes a difference. Thanks for the positive review. No surprise, but I agree with you that we have a positive working environment and some incredible people working for the Federation. I just wrapped up 2 days hosting our new colleagues from across Canada in our national office in Toronto. It was great fun and left me very confident in the new crop of staff we are bringing in across the organization.

Pros

Work for a great cause

Cons

Pay structure is capped everywhere, you have to always be a top sales person or you will never get anywhere, the top or nothing to survive on, you will burn out

Thanks for the feedback. I’m pleased that you identified with our cause at CFIB. Small business owners have really struggled this past year and I have been so impressed with how our team has responded with advice and support. We’ve just completed Zoom meetings with our teams across most provinces, and staff are consistently reporting how proud they are to work for CFIB at this critical time. I’m sorry that it appears your pay expectations were not met. The District Manager job is not always an easy one and needs to be treated as a full-time role. While things were particularly challenging over the past year (due to the need to contact business owners virtually for several months), I am proud to report that nearly 15,000 small business owners made the decision to buy a paying membership during the pandemic. With the unprecedented awareness and interest in CFIB, this certainly helped us attract new members despite the challenging economic times. While serving our members is our main focus, our entire senior management team is committed to making CFIB a great place for staff to work and earn a good living. I believe we do a really solid job of that, but I am always looking for input from current (and former) staff along the way. Thanks for writing.
