Pros
This company is still in stealth mode so not much can be said about what they do just yet. But here's my view of the pros:
-> It's a well funded startup that seems to be doing things the right, patient way vs. the chaotic scramble i've seen at other startups.
-> They are building a cool mass market product that has the potential to change the way large numbers of people use the web.
-> The people (contractors, employees, founders...) work hard, but have balance and just about everyone i've met has significant outside interests.
-> The person who manages me is extremely involved; good at delegating, trusts me to do my job, but when something important comes up, he dives into the granular level and adds value. This is a welcome change from other places i've worked where management is either clueless or otherwise detached.
-> While a lot of the company's employees and contractors have worked together in the past, there are lots of new people, and there's some diversity of skills and experience. This provides a nice balance... artistic/creative types in both marketing and engineering, lots of young people with fresh ideas and skills, and experienced managers who know how to create a real business.
Cons
--> Benefits and compensation are good for a startup that hasn't launched yet. However, compared to a big established company, they are more mediocre. The people who work here tend to be here for the excitement and to be part of something special vs. just short term benefits.
--> Because it's a small, dynamic company that's hiring fast, people often have to wear many hats and be adaptable. This is actually a pro for many people who work hard , have a diverse skill set, and like learning new things. But some people who like structure, specialization, and predictability -- it may not be the best fit.
