Pros
- Very friendly environment, most staff are of the older generation, but this is starting to change as more younger staff are coming in
- Jobs are not competitive, have good work-life balance
- Have ownership of your work, which means you can initiate your own ideas, implement and evaluate by yourself
- Close-knit community, have exposure to very high level government and private business VIPs
- Travel is one of the perks
Cons
- Laid back, sometimes that leads to less motivation to do the jobs properly
- Office politics and bureaucracy, not too severe but hinder works in certain situations
- Management sometimes have little directions, make it difficult to navigate the job. Management are usually changed after 3 years, new people come with new objectives and take time to settle down
- Very little chance to move up. Salary stagnant compared with peers at other Embassies
