Pros

The pros were nice when you start but you realized all the good people who were there left for a reason. So all the amazing people who gave their heart and soul to the anti-racism work were pushed out and/ or silenced. Great benefits though, until you realized how much of your low pay is going to benefits.

Cons

Lack of boundaries, super racist organization that only cares about their branding that had NOTHING to do with the community and what we have to offer. You’ll be put into work groups without consent and they have no clear guidance or understanding on how to lead this organization especially when working with children. Everything you say or do will be used against you ESPECIALLY if you fall are in the BIPOC community. Not safe for anyone who is not white. Also, many white colleagues are promoted easily than Black/brown staff. Loads of colorism is also playing a role in promotions. Take that as you will…. If you’re passionate, young, and also in a BIPOC/ LGBTQA+ community, this org DEFINITELY not a safe space to work in. Putting anti-racism in your mission does not mean everyone is anti-racist. They only do this for the optics. Performative as bleep Also, as a coach you’ll be doing this work alone!!! No support to do your job well and there is NO growth!!! No hope, just disappointments and people who cower to their funders instead of holding them accountable. Leadership is classist and racist as f….stay away from this place!!!! It’s a HOT mess and you’ll only leave depleted and harmed especially if you’re BIPOC. Lastly, many supervisors are also burnt out but some will sell you out. Be careful about what you tell your supervisors. They say “be authentic but don’t be authentic”. No one wants to you be authentic self, especially if it’s not molded into dominate culture. If you’re still there, I hope you know so many of us are rooting for you to leave. You’ll realize how much of a mind bleep it is to work in such a toxic, secretive, & racist organization. Search their audit/finances on ProPublica under BrightSpark Early Learning. Read their audits. It’s not good!

Pros

People are welcoming, good mission

Cons

Lots of turnover. Management needs to hire competent people who understand how a nonprofit works, and that have the formal education for the position they hold.
