Pros

There is no shortage of capable, intelligent people within the company, but retention and ongoing support for staff appear to be significant challenges.

Cons

My experience working at Brand Finance was deeply disappointing. Overall, I experienced a workplace culture that felt disorganised, stressful, and lacking in effective leadership and support. A recurring issue in my experience was senior management’s approach to project delivery. Teams were frequently criticised for project management issues, while many of the underlying problems appeared to stem from unclear direction, unrealistic expectations, and insufficient planning at a senior level. This often resulted in avoidable confusion and pressure within teams. Another area of concern was what I perceived to be a highly fragmented and ineffective approach to project coordination. In practice, “project management” often relied on multiple Microsoft Teams chats for different topics rather than structured systems or processes. In my experience, this led to fragmented communication, duplicated discussions, and important information being missed or overlooked, contributing to inefficiency and confusion. I also personally experienced and observed behaviour that I perceived as inappropriate and, at times, suggestive of bias within the workplace. When concerns were raised, they did not always appear to be handled in a way that gave confidence they would be addressed constructively, which contributed to reluctance among staff to speak openly. In my experience, there also appeared to be inconsistency in how issues were handled and escalated. Concerns I raised did not always seem to lead to constructive outcomes, and at times it felt as though raising issues could have a negative impact on me personally. This created a perception that speaking up was discouraged. I found the general communication style from senior leadership to be, at times, unprofessional and difficult. I observed colleagues becoming visibly upset following certain interactions, which contributed to a sense of low morale and pressure within the working environment. There was also, in my perception, a sense that some individuals were treated more favourably than others, which affected trust in leadership and team cohesion. In my experience, there was also a lack of empathy and support when employees were dealing with personal circumstances outside of work. When taking time off for issues such as bereavement or health issues, I sometimes felt there was an implicit pressure or discomfort around doing so. This contributed to a sense that taking time away from work, even for legitimate personal reasons, was not always fully supported or understood. Overall, my experience of Brand Finance was that of a workplace with significant cultural and management challenges. I believe improvements in leadership style, communication, structure, and employee support would be needed to create a more positive working environment.
