Pros
This review is specific to IT&DA in Boeing Bangalore India and should not be taken as of entire Boeing or any other business unit. I will start with pros : 1. Excellent policies about vacations, holiday etc. , in general better than most of the other companies . (may be due to global policies) 2. Work life balance in most of the projects . In general global policies are good and promotes lot of employee friendly things.
Cons
However good story ends above: 1. "Highly Nontechnical" managers with non-existent people skills ( most of them except may a few good ones ) not adding any value to the company . 2. Middle level managers are ineffective (as being non technical with no domain knowledge ) most of the time busy in dirty politics for every small thing as this is what they can do . 3. Manager's company, very hierarchical , you can not do even small things without manager's approval , this brings lot of arrogance and a feeling of superiority in managers. The negative of this is everyone wants to be manager because the power lies there (at least in Boeing India ) and no one is looking for other roles (e.g. Architects/Product manager/Subject matter expert etc. ) , this also brings culture of sycophancy across the organization . 4.Boeing behavior remains on posters only , typically you are asked to behave opposite . If you show Boeing behavior (interpretation of that is very subjective ) and does not go well with your manager then your career may be over or you will become stagnant /sidelined. 5. Not good for experienced people if they are in other roles apart from managers as managers (coterie of managers) will ensure that if you speak up then you are sidelined ( In most of the cases or you look for other opportunities within other BU if you can't keep your mouth shut ) and eventually you leave the company after getting frustrated. Having said that this only applies for Boeing India IT&DA and I am very sure that people are empowered elsewhere 6. Not good for freshers or people in 2-5 years as well because most of the time you will work on legacy projects/old technologies and if you spend sometime here(2-3 years ) then there will be no takers for you outside Boeing . A significant time is spent building PowerPoint slides which they call entrepreneurship/startup culture :-). 7. A very high culture of sycophancy instead of merit ( most of the times ) which is disheartening , typically anyone who is on the other side of the globe is considered demigod and people who are individual contributor role in India ( However experienced they are ) are taken for granted and not listened. Managers ensure people bend and follow the "Orders" from someone from US. 8. Significant level of attrition in experienced and junior resources(not in managers though ) as they are tired of highly political and ineffective managers who are arrogant and not able to provide any value.(remember most of them are non-technical with no domain knowledge and unfortunately non-existent people skills ). 9. New President/VP conducted some surveys about effectiveness of management and people on the ground thought that this will bring some changes but nothing has changed unfortunately on the ground or not tangible. People are losing faith and attrition will continue. (may slow down a bit due to Covid )
