Pros

Leaving at the end of the day is the only pro

Cons

Bode and their owners and the people they employ in upper management are so removed from reality it’s actually concerning. So so out of touch, they only cares about themselves, the employee is the LAST thing on their minds. They act like they’re doing you a favor by employing you and you should kiss their feet. Upper management displays harmful behavior to others, shouting, bullying, and lack an ounce of professionalism or knowledge to grow and motivate their team. You will be met with road block after road block and the goal post continually moving, you will not advance your career here at all, let alone be able to do your job properly in this environment. Pay is not great with empty promises of review and raises at onboarding. Some people are genuine and nice but most employees are trying to save themselves from the train wreck that is this company that the energy and morale is so poor, you wonder why you’re even there trying to do what you love.

Pros

good culture, people are genuine and surrounded by textiles and antiques. lots of chances to take on responsibility. Hands on work that cares about history. Generous vacation.

Cons

fast paced and often times a lot is expected. Have to be proactive about learning, not an email culture.

Pros

When I first started working at Bode, I was met with an extremely kind retail team. It was a very positive work environment and I quickly made friends with my colleagues (they have all since left). There was strong communication amongst the store staff and good leadership from management.

Cons

The pros of working at Bode did not go beyond the friendships I made. Upper management and owners are condescending and out of touch. They will do next to nothing to help you progress in your career and there is almost zero potential for growth (and goodluck getting a raise). The job pays well below industry standard for "Luxury Retail" (it's not luxury), and there is no commission offered. The facilities are an absolute mess. The number of dead rats that all employees had the privilege of sweeping up before, during, and after shifts is impossible to count. Multiply that by five for the dead roaches. If you decide to work at the store on Hester St, a part of your morning routine will be sweeping up the rat poop and animal carcasses left over from the night before. There is mold growing in the basements and stores, there is an odd odor coming from the vents, and the walls of the stockroom crumble. Multiple people were electrocuted in the stockrooms, and nothing was done to address the hazards. I seriously could write pages about how frustrating it was to work at Bode for the last 6 months. ELEVEN people have quit in that amount of time, as management took a complete downturn. The store is no longer an enjoyable place to work. It is full of disorder, and bad energy. I seriously dreaded going into work everyday for my last few months.
