Pros

Great kids, great team members (other math fellows) who care as much about the betterment of education and the kids' futures as you do.

Cons

- Coordinators are not up front about what the job actually entails. - You are paid as much as a McDonald's employee. - HR can cut your benefits, even after you sign the contract (which they did this year). - You're ACTUALLY paid less than the janitor. - Coordinators expect you to be putting in 2-4 hours each day at home. - You are expected to work as much, if not more, than teachers but you are not given the same respect by administration. - You get a 25 minute lunch break all day. - You get 1 planning period (teachers get 2), but coordinators like to use this time to give you extra work. - You are not RESPECTED by Administration nor your Blueprint Coordinator. They do not have your back, nor your best interest at hear. EX. One of my fellow colleagues needed to miss an after school meeting to register her car, and was told she was not allowed to (as if she needed to ask permission). She received a ticket the following weekend but no apology from the Blueprint coordinator who made her cancel her appointment. - I would NEVER advise anyone to take on this job, even if your love kids and want to teach, because the pay is not sustainable, and your employer will squeeze out every last drop of energy you have until you have none left for your kids who need you.

Thank You for Your Service in Oakland Thank you for sharing your experience and for the three years you dedicated to our students in Oakland. It is wonderful to hear that you found your time as a Lead Math Fellow rewarding and that you felt supported by your colleagues. Your commitment played a vital role in helping our students build their math skills and confidence. We appreciate your honesty regarding the daily realities of working in a classroom. Supporting students through the challenges of adolescence requires immense patience and resilience. We aim to ensure our Fellows feel equipped for these moments through ongoing coaching and collaborative team support, and we value the grace you showed in navigating those disruptions to keep the focus on learning. Regarding your feedback on compensation, we understand the importance of balancing mission-driven work with the cost of living, particularly in the Bay Area. We are continuously looking for ways to enhance the overall Fellow experience—including professional development and AmeriCorps benefits like the Segal Education Award—to ensure our team feels valued for the incredible impact they make. Thank you again for your hard work and for being a part of the Blueprint community. We wish you the very best in your next chapter!
